Other than the fact that they’re just plain trendy, teepees really are the best craze that ever hit the DIY mom’s world. Embellished with pom poms and fancy feathers or just plain and simple, these little tents create a fun space for any little adventurer – a magical prop in the already wonderful play world that is the imagination.
Think of it as a modern-day treehouse of sorts. A little fort reserved only for the whimsical soul. Compact and portable, it’s the perfect solution for city dwellers with limited space. Set it up inside as a special retreat for reading books or playing with toys, or take it outside for a bit of shade and plenty of fun.
After browsing through Pinterest and marvelling at all the beautiful variations of this simple structure, I decided to give it a go.
I used this easy-to-follow pattern, but there are loads more to choose from if you’re looking for something a little different.
It really was simple to do. A sewing machine, 4 lightweight wooden dowel rods, thin rope, some white cotton fabric for the bulk of it, some grey and white fabric for a touch of pattern, soft feathers, peach satin ribbon, a string of bird-shaped fairy lights for the embellishments, and…voila! A few hours later and we have our very own homemade teepee!
The happy customer…
Tip: Make sure your little one is well occupied while attempting this. Cutting large pieces of fabric, while a bouncing toddler is trying to climb on your head, can make for some skew lines and straight up disasters!
